RE: America's Scenic Highways and Byways

Thanks for the link. I just ordered mine. I expect I'll get it long before I retire next spring.

To me, they all seem to have the black plastic housing. Some more obvious (at the top) than others.

RE: Country Coach Veranda

wouldn't that window be located in the floor of the veranda? :p
bumpy
True, if it was actually there. Since it isn't present having all that blank wall space would probably feel closed in.

RE: Country Coach Veranda

lots of mechanical nonsense
True, but it uses the exact same mechanism that is used on the slides so it should be just as reliable and the service techs don't need special training for new technology. And if it fails while it is down they did provide a manual method for closing it.
According to the latest CC magazine it takes 20 seconds to open and 30 to close. That seems impressive to me for that much movement. Don't be standing out there when it opens. :E I didn't read the article closely but I don't remember seeing anything about a safety mechanism like garage doors have. I don't recall exactly but all the mechanicals are rated at 4-5 times more weight than what they have to move or support.
I agree with those that state it is a bit small - only about 4' wide but fairly long. I don't recall seeing a picture with an awning over it but there might be one. When it is closed I think I'd wish for some window in that wall space.

RE: Class C Cab rebuild project

If you are talking about removing the outside clearance lights you need to check with your motor vehicle department to see if vehicles this size are required to have them.

Dang, due to weight & space limitations I no longer take camping my DOs & the little BBQ I use as a fire pit for it.

I guess I'll just have to make it at home.

RE: Just bought a 29ft '96 Minnie Winnie

You can get inverters that will power everything but the AC. But you also need a very large battery bank for it to draw from or you could get a dead battery quite quickly.

RE: Back to the Garmin GPS question

BTW does your Garmin Gal (the voice on the machine) have trouble enunciating? I kept hearing we turn on Highland Road. She was trying to say Highlighted road, can't say twelve either.
You should try using abreviations or acronyms in custom POIs. I have a campground membership that is named KM Resorts. So I entered the POI just that way, followed by the specific campground name. Guess what she said when I was approaching the campground - Kilometer Resorts. I fixed that by putting a space between the letters. It could be that your road is abbreviated in the database.

RE: Rock guard for DP?

...They keep the car 1000% cleaner...
I wouldn't make that claim. Wet roads that kick up a spray still coat the toad with road grime. It really gets dirty when the roads have been sanded and the frost/ice/snow has melted. I carry a liter bottle of water in the toad for rinsing the windshield so I can get it somewhat clean when I arrive.

RE: class c fulltimers..maintenance questions??

Ford service departments will charge $80-100 per hour labor irregardless of what you need. For an oil change that can equate to over $80 + parts and oil.
Maybe that is your experience but at my local Ford service department it costs me less than $50 for everything. Actually, I've paid more to Jiffy Lube to do my car. At least they are fast and only delay my trip home by less than 10 minutes.

RE: Propane Refills for $10.99?

That may be a good price for that area but around here it wouldn't be much of a savings and might even be more than I can get it for. IIRC propane weighs something like 4.4 pounds/gallon. At 80% fill a 20# tank would be about 4 gallons. Propane is $2.89 at several commercial stations so a full 4 gallon fill up would be 11.56 (probably plus tax). I can also go to the dealer where I got my rig and get propane for (I think) $1.99/gallon.

RE: New RV Anti-freeze

I don't know if it is the exactly same product but I know that between the various brands there is at least one obvious difference - color. RV antifreeze is often called "pink stuff" but I've seen actual PINK and the REDISH like that DOW brand.

RE: Camping World dump site closed forever

The nearby RV park where I store our MH, someone took a perfectly sized rock wrapped it in canvas and forced it down the hole approximately 8 feet. Estimated cost of repair, in excess of 5 grand. The RV park is thinking about it, probably will not do the repair. It isn't just slobs, it can also be vandals.
Something like that was what I was thinking. I can't imagine anything coming out of a 3" hose causing a problem with a 4" (or larger) pipe.

RE: Stinky!!

also always open relief valve before removing drain plug to let off pressure.Or open a hot water faucet.
When refilling open a hot water faucet until water comes out steadily to remove the trapped air. Only then do you turn it on.

RE: RV RoVer

39 mpg is fine but just how big is the gas tank? I'd want to hear how noisy the gas engine is with their custom muffler.
It is likely some campgrounds wouldn't allow the gas one to be running around the campground. It is quite unlikely to be anything like a 2 cycle dirt bike both in noise & speed but it might be treated just the same.

RE: How Many nights or weekends............

Over 100 nights so far for 2008 and will be starting another 14 tomorrow. We have been going out for two weeks every 2-3 weeks and every weekend - weekends for me alternate 2 & 3 days. For the two week outings I commute to work from the RV park (it's closer than home). Including the upcoming two weeks I expect about 75 more for 2008. Getting some practice in for retirement in 222 days. :B

I guess that is testimony to how strong the cab over section is (was). It knocked the house off but didn't rip off the cab-over.

RE: How Do You Level this Thing?

I have one set out of 2x12; they are about 24 inches long. They are used by themselves (not stacked) or with lynx levelers. The two sets I stack (only two high) are 36" & 30". The 30" is long enough for me to add 3 layers of lynx levelers. The levelers are about 10" square and I fit 3 because the rear one has the dowels sticking up inside them so it overhangs the back of the board a couple inches.
Between the boards and the lynx levelers I can get lift of 1" to 5". I stop at 5" because I don't like using more than 3 layers of levelers. For a long time I only had one set of levelers but I was in one site where I needed more. Instead of running home for more boards (16 miles each way) I went to the local RV parts place (1/2 mile) and paid a premium price for another set. I've marked that site on the campground map so I don't select it again.

RE: Winnebago Minnie Fresh Water Overflow

Can you see the tank? There should be a fitting on one side at the top that comes out and then angles down for any overflow to get to the ground. I get the impression this is a used rig. It is possible that the previous owner plugged it because water does splash out it. I've lost as much as 1/3 of the tank that way.
That is the way the city connection is supposed to work. As far as the city water connection filling the tank...there should be a small valve that you turn to divert the water to the tank. Again, it is possible that the previous owner removed this for some reason. I know on my Minnie getting to the pump for service is/would be very difficult because of all the plumbing that is in front of it.
